THE BRAND NEW HEAVIES RETURN WITH A NEW ALBUM, A NEW LABEL AND A NEW LADY!

Unassuming but influential, quintessentially English, individual with a strong sense of style, delivering classics with a contemporary twist – successful but never forgetting their roots… this is The Brand New Heavies.

The Heavies have a musical heritage to be proud of. They’ve been responsible for soul/funk driven records such as “Back To Love”, “Dream On Dreamer”, “Shelter”, “Midnight At The Oasis” and “Never Stop” which can only be filed under the letter ‘C’ for classic! They’ve had 15 hits in the UK and also commercial and critical success worldwide, selling in excess of 2million albums. They were there at the very start of the acid jazz movement, they were one of the bands who helped pioneer a distinctively British soul/funk sound, and then they were in at the beginning again when hip hop and jazz came together: their “Heavy Rhyme Experience Vol1” album was where The Pharcyde made their recording debut and Gang Starr got hectic.

The Heavies are a band built on strong friendship, strong values and a shared passion for raw, real music. Which is why, whenever the tide of fashion turns they are ahead of the game riding the first waves.

And now Jan Kincaid, Simon Bartholomew and Andrew Love Levy have reached a new crest. Enlisting the talents of feisty Anglo/Italian, Nicole Russo, whose vocal seduction continues a prestigious line of incredible singers, to their ranks The Heavies return with a spanking new album, “allabouthefunk”.

The Heavies have always been experimental, with the addition of Russo to the family they have once again pushed musical boundaries, creating a fresh album that is simply a joy to listen to.

The first cut to be lifted from the album, “BOOGIE”, is a classic Heavies dance record, bringing their inimitable sound into the present. Calling on all to believe in themselves, the song is especially directed to women. The lyrics beckon them to be empowered and not be drawn into situations that would compromise them. “BOOGIE” is driven by the band’s trademark dirty bass line coupled with seductive harmonies. The accompanying video was shot this summer in the old MI6 building in London.

“BOOGIE”, will be hitting the streets on October 4th on OneTwo Records, which is an imprint of Enterprise Records, home of the ultra hip lifestyle label HED KANDI. “BOOGIE” has been remixed by the inimitable Blacksmith. “allabouthefunk” will be released on October 18th, 2004.
