Today I did the climb to Rocacorba. The climb starts out just outside the town of Banyoles (look for the signs directing to Pujarnal). The ride is often used by the many professional cyclists that reside in Girona during the racing season. I found it to be a nice climb with some steep parts. I actually met no other cyclists on my way up and only the names of “Hincapie”, “VandeVelde” and “Barry” painted on the road reminded me that at others climbed this mountain. Here’s a view David Millar had during one of his trainingrides up Rocacorba.
Rocacorba – is a beautiful mountain, rising up out of the gentle rolling Catalunya landscape surrounding Girona. The road that snakes up it is brutal, at times bringing the best climbers in the world to grapple with their bikes. To reach the top of Rocacorba offers a sense of achievement few mountains can match. Climbing for climbing’s sake; that’s what Rocacorba is about. – David Millar
