A record number of 17.249 Runners
The 28th edition of the Stockholm Marathon has entries from 17.249 runners representing 57 nations. The international field starts from the street Lidingövägen outside the Olympic Stadium, Saturday 3 June at 2 pm. 8.503 foreignrunners have entered. After Sweden, the nation with the largest number of participants is Finland with the impressive figure of 5.122 followed by Germany with 1.099 runners, Great Britain 479, Denmark 275, Norway 228, France 227, USA 178, Switzerland 159 and Italy with 145 runners.
When the first Stockholm Marathon was held in 1979, 2 145 runners from 9 countries entered. Among them 69 female runners. This year Stockholm Marathon has a record number of 3.803 women, representing 22 per cent of all participants. Both figures are records for the race.8.894 of the entered runners are first time runners of Stockholm Marathon but many of them have completed other marathons. The start list includes 52 runners who so far have finished all 27 Stockholm Marathons. 2.691 volunteers are working during the marathon to give good service to
all runners.
Stockholm Marathon is broadcast live by TV4 from 1.30 p.m. For 4 hours you can follow the elite in the lead and also the masses further back.The race is organized by two of the leading athletic clubs in Sweden, Hässelby SK and Spårvägens FK.
